Shazam, Da Plane!
Last week a very special model airplane I previously knew nothing about showed up through a sequence of seemingly unrelated events which brought me back to questions 1-3 from my Face Book post on May 25, 2023. After Corey presented The Rose Bush he made from the drawing Markus did September 2000.
1: Ever wonder where people get their creative ideas from?
2: Ever wonder how and why some people come into our lives.
3: How are some people blessed with remarkable skills, talents, and insights?
4: How is it that some have a knack for making huge amounts of money?
5: ETC, ETC, etc.
Roger came into my life for the first time in 1975. He found a very depressed 16-year-old kid walking by a runway, he took me flying and became my first flight instructor and helped me turn my life around. He went on to fly all over the world for JAARs when I next saw him about 13 years ago. He did not remember me and was frustrated because of it. His wife Regina told me he was loosing his memory for some reason. Weird because he had an amazing memory and ability to recall anything.
He also had an ability to excel at anything he tried from surfing, cycling, flying any kind of airplanes both models and real. If he had a passion for it, he excelled at it. He was known for his amazing memory even when being shown stuff while asleep. At his memorial several check pilots shared how they would be showing Roger routes through the jungle when he was a missionary pilot new to the area and look over and he would be asleep.
When awake and tested he flew the routes perfectly.
Roger’s most used word was Shazam.
Shazam how did this happen?
A couple of weeks ago Donna wanted to take me to the mall and hunt for jeans. Low on my list of ideas for fun afternoons, however this time I was Ok with the idea.
Walked into a Halmark store and there on the discount rack was Shazam “Fury of The Gods.” Purchased it, took it home and made a little stand. My intent was to place it on Roger’s Grave before we had dinner with Judy and Glenda Thursday at 6:00. See question 2 above. I’ve known Judy for a long time, her husband Jim helped me get my mechanics license to work on airplanes while I was in high school. Glenda was in the choir with Donna which is another whole fun story. It is only the second time I have met Glenda however she knows a lot of the people I ran with as a kid.
I picked Donna up from an obligation she had and went to the cemetery, could not find the grave so went to eat dinner. After, we decided to take Shazam to Roger’s house. There we found Da Plane headed to the scrap yard. It is something Roger built and flew a long time ago.
Da Plane is now hanging in my sacred corner of the garage where I spend a lot of time making the fun stuff.

When I came back to NC I gave Jim the picture of us posing with the DC3 and Luscombe I used for my training. Before he passed, he spent hours looking at the picture of the DC3 taken in 1977. I wonder what he was thinking about during that time.
Before Roger passed, he went through the Bible and highlighted some verses. Towards the end he highlighted everything. I wonder what he was thinking about during that time.
